Our President this year is:  Rtn. Pru Choudhury

We had a lovely evening at the Chigwell Golf Club where President Serene Martin inducted me as the new President. Thank you Serene, for leaving me the club in such a good state.

I thank all my fellow Rotarians of the Club for electing me as their President for 2008/2009.  We had Assistant District Governor for the North East,  Jeremy Jessell with his wife Sue as our guests.

I also had another 25 guests from various parts of the country (Rotarians and non-Rotarians).  Locals from Hertfordshire, Sussex and as far away as Lincolnshire!  It was an excellent evening and I thank all my fellow Rotarians of the Club for their assistance, help and support for the evening.

For the first of my charities I have chosen to support Polio Eradication, which is run by Rotary Internationally, and aims to remove the threat of Polio throughout the world. At the moment only about six countries in the world are still affected by Polio and once everyone in these countries have been  immunised, Polio will disappear for good.

My other charity is The Maggie’s Centres. A 'Maggie's Centre' is a place where anyone affected by cancer can turn for help. We are open to everyone - not just to people who have been diagnosed with cancer, but also to their families, friends and carers. All our services are free of charge and we work in partnership with local NHS Trusts. I
